“Where some states have an army, the Prussian Army has a state." In the aftermath of the First Scinfaxi War, these words once again rang true for the German Reich. With the death of Hitler and the majority of the Nazi leadership, the Wehrmacht found itself the sole remaining organization in Europe capable of restoring order. German forces swiftly took control of territories devastated by the Scinfaxi siege, from the Atlantic Coast to the frontiers of former Poland. The new military government eschewed the divisive racial ideologies that formed the core of National Socialist politics; the SS was purged in an effort that culminated in Operation Flycatcher, in which over 70 prominent SS and pro-Nazi officers were assassinated.

Surging in growth after the post-war reunification, the Greater German Reich boasts a proud history of technological achievements, sophisticated industrial developments, and economic prowess. The nation is particularly famed for its terraforming methods, which have become standard across the Orion Arm, and its numerous technology exports. German-made spacecraft are highly regarded, with Hartmann-Krupp-built transports a common sight in orbit of nearly every major world. A strict adherence to Speerist Economic Thought has turned the German economy into a machine of the state itself, with a heavy reliance on robotics in manufacturing and raw material processing.

With over 6 billion citizens, the Greater German Reich is the third most populous nation within the Orion Arm. Its peoples are primarily Germanic yet include numerous ethnic and cultural groups from across the whole of former Earth. Political, cultural, social and personal rights are equal under law for all citizens regardless of gender, sexual orientation and personal identity. The German government does, however, encourage couples to raise children and promotes motherhood in the form of incentives for women leaving the workforce and subsidies for large families.
At the heart of German society remains the Armed Forces. All citizens are obligated to serve 15 months in the military, or alternatively, in civil protection organizations involved in disaster relief, emergency medical services, and frontier colonization efforts. Support for the military is very high across the whole of German society; a career in the armed forces is regarded as especially prestigious.

The Greater German Reich has had a longstanding rivalry with the Democratic Federation, although ties in recent years have begun to improve. German-Japanese relations have remained consistently favorable since the evacuation of Earth and German foreign policy affirms its relationship with the Empire of Japan as its most important bilateral partnership. As the leader of the interstellar Fascist movement, the GGR also has strong ties to the Italian Social Republic, the Spanish State, and many other smaller nations throughout the Orion Arm. The Soviet Union is regarded as the most prominent threat to the Greater German Reich, with both nations engaged in a prolonged ideological struggle and vast military buildup with one another. A period of open conflict between the Soviet Union and Greater German Reich began in 2281 following the German invasion of Tanarsus. Since then, conflict has spread to nearby border systems, as well as Vega, where some of the fiercest fighting has taken place.
