Nakiska Outpost is an independent trading station located within the Mako Cluster of the Lalande System. Originally named Kiska Station, the outpost was first constructed the late 22nd century and operated for roughly two decades before being abandoned during the Odysseus Impact. Since its rediscovery in 2202, the station has been occupied by various individuals and groups and is today operated by Edward Thrush, a former freelancer. Nakiska Outpost has become a minor center of trade and port of call in the Lalande System, mainly catering to smaller vessels travelling between Alpha Centauri and Sirius.
The Orion Arm, also known as the Orion Region, is the name given to the extent of interstellar space currently inhabited by humanity. While the region covers an extremely vast distance, it represents only a small section of the Milky Way galaxy. Within the Orion Arm there lie several thousand star systems, with millions of planets, moons, and all manner of asteroid belts, comets, and other celestial phenomena. Only a tiny fraction of these star systems contain habitable planets, with roughly three hundred systems currently inhabited by humans. Estimates see that number rising to over four hundred within the next fifty years.
Since the exodus from Earth, the vast majority of humanity has been divided between four great superpowers. These nations have expanded across dozens of systems and hundreds of worlds and now posses nearly limitless economic and military power. Even combined, the remaining states of the Orion Arm cannot hope to match the potential of any of the superpowers and the only threat to their continued hegemony is limited to each other.
The Königsberg Class cruiser is an advanced class of cruiser in service with the Greater German Reich’s Kriegsmarine. The class is primarily designed for anti-starship warfare although recent deployments and conflicts have proven their versatility in many different roles. The design of the Königsberg class includes advanced stealth features designed to deceive an opponents radar and infra-red sensors. It also incorporates the latest version of the BALDR integrated combat system, able to simultaneously track, engage and destroy more targets than 7 of the previous Berlin class cruisers operating together. After the launch of the lead ship Königsberg, Großadmiral Kirsten Lang stated "the KMS Königsberg is the most capable cruiser in the Orion Arm, it represents the best of German technology, innovation and engineering."
