The McDonnell Douglas F-408 Vampire is a twin engine trans-atmospheric tactical fighter aircraft designed for escort missions with additional capabilities including air/space superiority, ground attack, electronic warfare, and signals intelligence roles. The F-408 was developed jointly for use in the United States and Pacific States Armed Forces but has since been exported to the air and space forces of several other nations.

McDonnell Douglas is the prime contractor and was responsible for the majority of the airframe, wings, and final assembly of the F-408 while program partner Cessna provided the weapon pylons, avionics integration and training systems. Hughes Northrop was responsible for production of the 408 within the Pacific States of America.
